At the 2006 Diocesan Convention, St. Augustine's proposed that Justice Thurgood Marshall, a member of St. A's until his death, be included in the church's book of Lesser Feasts and Fasts.  The proposal was overwhelmingly passed.  Subsequent action has led to this proclamation from Bishop John Chane:

Bishop John Bryson Chane’s Closing Action to the Diocesan Council

 Regarding Thurgood Marshall

 That Diocesan Council authorize the formation of an official Thurgood Marshall Task Force to move forward with haste in preparation for the General Convention of the Episcopal Church to be held in Anaheim, California this summer.  The task force would;

1)  Insure that this diocese and all its parishes observe Justice Thurgood Marshall Sunday.

2)  That the Task force working with the proper authorities within the Episcopal Church develop a strategy for the General Convention to include Justice Thurgood Marshall on the calendar of Lesser Feasts and Fasts of the Episcopal Church.

3)  That this Task Force contacts all dioceses within the Episcopal Church to support such legislative action to develop a strategy and plan nationally to accomplish this task.

4)  That this Task Force presents its work and accomplishments to the diocese and Diocesan Council by November, 2009.
