Lent in Poetry
Seeking a Lenten discipline? St. Augustine's parishioner Erin Baize spends Lent with T.S. Eliot every year, reading his well-known "Four Quartets." Poetry can be an approach to meditation during this wilderness time. Erin and our seminarian, Cara Modisett, will lead a six-week series on Tuesday nights at 7pm, immediately following Evening Prayer, beginning February 23rd, reading and responding to the powerful, contemplative images in Eliot's poetry and finishing with a reading of the entire work on the Tuesday night of Holy Week.
Sessions will be self-contained so don't worry if you have to miss one or more. Pick up a copy of the Four Quartets, or find them in an online edition here. The entire work can be read in as little as 30 minutes, and we encourage you to read through it if possible once before our first meeting. E-mail Cara at CModisett@vts.edu if you're interested in participating or if you have any questions!
The class will be held remotely by video conference and phone; to get the number and Zoom link, just contact Cara!
